The Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) joined insurance industry stakeholders at the 6th Insurance Training Collage International Insurance Conference, held in Gulu City from 21st to 24th October, 2026, under the theme “Moving from Risk to Readiness.” The conference brought together industry leaders, regulators and stakeholders to reflect on emerging risks, strengthen industry collaboration and explore practical approaches to advancing insurance penetration and financial protection.

A key message throughout the conference was the need for the insurance industry to move beyond conventional approaches and place greater emphasis on the people it serves. Addressing participants, Saul Sseremba, CEO of Insurance Training Collage Uganda, challenged industry players to look beyond premium collection and consider the impact of their work, asking: “How many lives are we protecting, not just how much are we collecting?”

His remarks underscored the importance of making insurance more relevant, accessible and responsive to the evolving needs of individuals and businesses, particularly amid rising inflation and increasing cyber threats. He called for a more people-centered approach that prioritizes appropriate coverage, customer understanding and the actual value of insurance protection.

He emphasized the importance of education, experience, networking, purpose and discipline in preparing individuals and institutions to navigate an increasingly dynamic environment.

As part of the conference activities, UIA joined ITC Uganda, the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU) and other industry players for an insurance awareness walk through Gulu City. Held under the theme “Insurance Konyo”, meaning Insurance Helps, the initiative provided an opportunity to take insurance conversations beyond conference halls and engage communities on the importance of insurance in protecting lives, businesses and livelihoods.

UIA also participated in the conference’s networking engagements and industry discussions, which provided a platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening professional relationships and exploring opportunities to advance the sector.

A key highlight was a panel discussion moderated by UIA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jonan Kisakye, featuring Commissioner of Insurance, Tanzania - Dr. Saqware Baghayo, Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Authority - Mrs. Josephine Okui Ossiya and Chairperson of the Insurance Institute of Kenya - Mr. Peter Kagia. The discussion brought together perspectives from across the financial services and insurance sectors, contributing to important conversations on the industry’s growth and future direction.
