Africa Network Of Insurers Associations (ANIA) 3rd Annual General Meeting and Retreat takes place at Coral Beach Hotel Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Representatives of National Insurers Associations in Africa under their body the Africa Network of Insurers Associations (ANIA) converged for the third Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Retreat. This gathering took place on 24th to the 27th of March 2025 at Coral Beach Hotel in Dar-Es-Salam, Tanzania, hosted by the Association of Tanzania Insurers (ATI).

The delegates arrived on Sunday 23rd March, with the proceedings commencing on Monday 24th March. The first session of the AGM saw the ANIA Secretary present the 2024 Report, which was subsequently adopted. In addition, proposed ANIA standards of conduct and a proposed ANIA logo were reviewed and adopted. The team also reviewed the proposed ANIA 2025 Annual plans including the ANIA Strategic Plan, Standard Market Report, Quarterly Meetings, Registration of ANIA and Funding.

It was also during Day One of the third ANIA Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Retreat that new members: Angola Insurers Association (ASSAN) and Life Offices Association (LOA) of Zimbabwe were admitted to the network. The delegates then discussed the subject of collaboration with other associations, namely: Association of African Insurance Brokers, West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA), Association of Africa Insurance Supervisory Authorities (AAISA), Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA).

The ANIA Delegates then elected new office bearers including: Chairman, Vice Chairman Anglophone and Vice Chairman Francophone, Secretary, and Treasurer and closed in on the venue for the 2026 Retreat. 

Day One’s afternoon session primarily featured Committee meetings namely: 

  • ANIA Committee 1 - Development of retention Policy (Capacity building) chaired by Zambia
  • ANIA Committee 2 - Sustainability of the National Associations chaired by Kenya
  • ANIA Committee 3 - Internal Matters of ANIA chaired by ICZ Zimbabwe

The second day of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Retreat kicked off with welcoming remarks from ANIA Chairman, Jonan Kisakye (CEO of the Uganda Insurers Association) and Association of Tanzania Insurers Chairperson, Flora Minja who was represented by the Vice Chairman Mr. Wilson Mnzava. Thereafter, presentations took centre stage.

The East African Insurance Supervisors’ Association (EISA) presented on the collaboration and partnership between the National Associations and Regulators for the success of the Insurance Industry. The presentation was delivered by the Commissioner of Insurance Tanzania, Dr. Baghayo Saqware.

The Africa College of Insurance and Social Protection (ACISP) led by their CEO, Ms. Cikay Richards also presented. Their insights revealed areas for ANIA to benchmark and learn from the work undertaken by ACISP especially on the area of collaboration.

The final presentation was from the African Insurance Organisation (AIO) delivered by their Head of Technical Operations Mr Tala Ndze who represented the AIO Secretary General, Jean Baptiste Ntukamazina. The purpose was to draw lessons from ANIA’s partnership with AIO, to help the two organisations to work together and foster the growth of the insurance industry in Africa.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Retreat was finally crowned with the delegates taking part in excursions including a Tanzania Historical Tour and an experience of stunning Aya Sophia.
