The Uganda Insurers Association took part in the traffic induction course for cadet officers organized by The Directorate of Traffic & Safety of Uganda Police Force at the CID Training School in Kibuli. The lecture was aimed at enhancing the police cadets’ knowledge & understanding of Motor Insurance to facilitate informed enforcement.
Non-Life Technical Assistant - Gilbert Emojong who led our team relayed UIA’s appreciation to the Directorate of Traffic & Safety of Uganda Police Force for the invitation to enlighten the cadet officers on Motor Insurance. He emphasized the critical role that the Traffic Police plays as a stakeholder in enforcing Motor Third Party insurance (MTP), a social protection policy for Ugandan passengers & pedestrians.
ICEA Lion General’s Head of Sales - Mr Adrapi Stephen presented on Motor Third Party & Motor Comprehensive Insurance highlighting what the two policies cover respectively. He also elaborated on how motor vehicle owners can acquire Motor Third Party Insurance with ease via the MTP Platform. While emphasizing the importance of Motor Insurance, he gave the Police Cadets a snapshot of the global statistics on road accidents.
In her lecture, Daisy Nantume from UgandaRe expounded on the Common Market for Eastern And Southern Africa (COMESA) Yellow Card, explaining that it is an MTP version issued to foreign vehicles passing through Uganda from COMESA member-states hence covering individuals in case the insured vehicle is involved in an accident in a foreign land. She informed the cadets that the COMESA Headquarters are located in Lusaka, Zambia while its National Bureau in Uganda is at Uganda Re Offices on Plot 19, Baskerville Avenue in Kololo.
Gilbert pledged the Association’s support to the Police Force whenever the need arises for refresher trainings on Motor Insurance and in pursuing MTP claims that are channeled through UIA.
