The Traders’ Insurance Uptake Survey was meant to gauge the traders’ knowledge on insurance, understand their risks and establish how insurance can come in to address the risks they face & fill their insurance knowledge gap.

KACITA Chairman - Dr. Musoke Thaddeus Nagenda.

In her submission, Ms. Kemigisa explained that the study was based on the need to understand the challenges faced by KACITA members. She revealed that UIA is faced with a challenge of penetrating the KACITA membership underscoring the need for the association to understand the challenges & risks that the KACITA members face and in turn, support them from an informed standpoint. She said that the survey was premised on understanding the traders’ uptake of insurance, how to bring insurance information closer to the KACITA members, ascertain their likelihood to insure their businesses, and how they are saving for retirement.

She reported that UIA was able to access traders in Mbale & Mbarara thanks to the Mbale City Traders Association & Mbarara City Traders Association respectively. She also said that while many lessons are to be drawn by insurance companies from the survey, KACITA can draw lessons too, further imploring the KACITA Board to utilize the findings to support their member traders.

Ms. Katusiime noted that UIA’s members are focusing on supporting different sectors and that getting evidence is the first step in the right direction and therefore, through KACITA, they will be able to reach more traders. She also delivered our CEO’s appreciation for KACITA’s support in enabling the survey.
